Food is essential for surviving and can be found in the wild, farmed or hunted. Food items fill your hunger bar to varying degrees given by "food value" in the table below.
Being closer to optimal temperature will slow your food meter consumption, described via the following equation:
FoodConsumedPerMinute = 60 / [2 + 20 * (1 - 2 * ABS{playerTemperature-0.5} )]
Some foods require special tools to harvest (e.g. Burdock, Wild Carrot), or complex recipes to craft (e.g. Pork Taco). Foods such as pies and bowl of gooseberries can be 'used' multiple times, making them an efficient portable food option when traveling.
The Psilocybe Mushroom is a special food item which, while returning only one bar of hunger, has the special quality of subjecting the player to certain visual effects.
Excluding the Psilocybe mushroom, food can be fed to other players, which can be especially useful when there are no available fertile females to feed a baby directly.
This is a real time tracker, five minute cycles, of what food is being consumed in the game. Accumulated across all servers it presents consumption stats through the official website.
This is the Public Data on food consumption.
Yum Bonus[ | ]
Main article: Yum Bonus
Eating a variety of foods will give you an additional "Yum Bonus", which stacks for every different type of food you consume without repetition. An icon in the lower left status bar will indicate if a held food is "Yum" or "Meh".
The Yum Bonus also influences the birth algorithm - A fertile female with an ideal temperature and a high yum bonus will birth more babies.
The Yum Bonus will also increase your max food capacity - You will see a +x after consuming food that would surpass your max food capacity.
Food Bonus/Debuff[ | ]
All food items provide an additional flat bonus/debuff added to their Food value at time of consumption, along with the Yum bonus. It depends on the generation of your family, the higher the generation, the lower the bonus/debuff. Food Bonus/Debuff is range from 2 ~ -5.
