Firing Newcomen Pump

The Newcomen Pump is an upgraded version of the Deep Well which manually produces water. It was added in Version 175. It runs on charcoal and can be further upgraded to run on Kerosene.

Crafting[ | ]

Newcomen Atmospheric Core[ | ]

Wrought Iron Progression:
Hitting a Hot Wrought Iron on Flat Rock with
a Smithing Hammer will make:

You will need to smith three pieces of Wrought Iron to construct the core. Fire a piece of Wrought Iron at a Firing Forge using Wooden Tongs and place on a Flat Rock. Hit with a Smithing Hammer to choose the part to craft. Smith one each of Crude Piston, Crude Cylinder and Boiler. Add a Rubber Tire to the piston.

Combine the Cylinder and Boiler, then add the Piston with Seal to get Newcomen Atmospheric Core.

Pump Beam Kit[ | ]

Combine Two Curved Shafts together, then add these to Two Shafts to get Pump Beam Kit.

Tower[ | ]

Add four Stone Blocks to a Dry Deep Well to get Newcomen Tower. Add the Pump Beam Kit to the Tower, then the atmospheric core and a rope which completes the Newcomen Pump!

Using[ | ]

Add a Full Bucket of Water, a Basket of Charcoal, then light with a Firebrand to fire the pump. After 15 seconds the well will appear wet, and an empty bucket can be used to take 3 buckets of water before resetting back to its Dry state. giving a net value of 2 buckets of water gained.

Tip: Place a Cistern next to the Newcomen Pump. Run the pump and fill the cistern. Only take buckets from the cistern for use elsewhere. When the cistern is empty, refill it from the pump and put the last bucket of water back into the pump boiler for the next use. This way you always have water, and the pump is always ready to add charcoal and use again.

Kerosene Newcomen Pump[ | ]

Crafting[ | ]

To upgrade the pump, add a Kerosene Wick Burner in the pump's full wet stage (may be updated in future versions). 3 buckets of water can be taken initially, before the pump works as usual.

Using[ | ]

A Kerosene Newcomen Pump works in the same way as a normal Newcomen Pump, except that instead of a Basket of Charcoal, a Tank of Kerosene is used. A kerosene tank has 5 uses, and the burner can be lit as usual with a firebrand. After 25 seconds the well will appear wet, and an empty bucket can be used to take 5 buckets of water before resetting back to its Dry state. giving a net value of 4 buckets of water gained (not including water used to make the kerosene).
